US HBT OD7 Cap During 1942 the US army found that the sage green colour they had faithfully been using during the initial years of the Second World War was no longer doing its job - it had become too light for concealment, and it was found that exposure was leading to fading of the fabric. So, after many tests and field trials, in 1943 Olive Drab #7 was introduced as its replacement. OD#7 is a darker shade than the sage green and was deemed much more appropriate for concealment purposes.
